The City of Lacey is approaching six decades since incorporation.
To celebrate, a new anniversary series will revisit parts of its recent history beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Lacey will turn 60 as an incorporated city on Dec. 5. Ahead of the anniversary, the city plans to share 60 highlights over 60 days. The posts will feature the people and projects of the past decade.
The launch of Lacey Night Market is one of the planned highlights. New parks and transportation improvements are also on the list. In addition, the countdown includes the new police station, Lacey MakerSpace and more.
According to the city, the milestones involve more than buildings, programs and projects. The series will also recognize the people behind them.
"Throughout the countdown, we'll also celebrate the (city) staff, community partners, elected officials, volunteers, and community members whose ideas, hard work, and support continue to make Lacey a special place to call home," the city said.
Meanwhile, the public can follow the highlights as they are posted on the city's Facebook and Instagram accounts.
LaceyWeekly will also publish recaps of celebrations in the coming weeks, giving readers another look at local milestones and the people involved.
