The City of Lacey is looking to add new members to a couple of advisory commissions.

Vacancies are available on the Lacey Historical Commission and Lacey Civil Service Commission. Both are unexpired terms, according to city notices issued on Friday, Sept. 18.

Historical Commission

The Historical Commission term expires on Sept. 13, 2029. Applicants should have professional experience evaluating historic resources.

A background in history, architecture, architectural history, historic preservation, planning, cultural anthropology, archaeology, cultural geography or American studies is preferred.

The commission works to raise awareness of the city's history and to preserve historic resources.

"The (commission) guides the creation of public education and interpretive programs, encourages preservation of items and properties of historical significance, and reviews nominations to the Lacey Register of Historic Places," the notice states.

Civil Service

The Civil Service Commission term ends on Oct. 1, 2029. The Historical Commission notice lists no residency rule, but civil service post does.

Applicants must live within Lacey city limits or the Lacey Urban Growth Area. No professional background is listed as a requirement.

"The Lacey Civil Service Commission, a three-member board, adopts rules for the regulation of personnel matters and competitive examinations for the Lacey Police Department's classified employees. It also hears appeals arising from the administration of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations," the notice states.

Members of both commissions may receive a stipend of $50 per meeting, up to $500 per year.

The payment aims to reduce barriers to participation in government and increase representation. The money can help cover child care costs during meetings, transportation to and from meetings, internet access for meetings and other financial impacts.

To apply, submit an application online through the city's website. The city will begin its first review of applications within 30 days of the notices being issued.
