The City of Lacey Public Works Department has launched a search for a qualified consultant to replace a 52-year-old wastewater lift station on the east side of town.
The request for qualifications for Lift Station 5 calls for the relocation of the aging pump facility to a new site on city-owned property.
Statements of qualifications are due Jan. 16, 2026.
Lift Station 5, at 3607 Ryan St. SE, has served the Lacey since 1973. The two-pump wet pit and dry pit facility requires mechanical upgrades, according to the city.
The replacement lift station "will incorporate a new wet well with submersible pumps, a new valve vault, bypass pumping, a new generator, and other site improvements."
The replacement lift station is going to be built at 3300 Ruddell Road SE. The new site is going to occupy an approximately 50 feet by 100 feet of space.
The existing Lift Station 5 "does not have standard Lacey wastewater lift station components, and has limited access for operation and maintenance," the city said.
Current pumps run at 150 gallons per minute at 39 feet total dynamic head and 5 horsepower. A permanent on-site standby generator provides 40 kilowatts.
Along with the lift station, project tasks include "installing motion-sensor lighting on back of property" and "installing approximately 520 feet of new sewer force main to accommodate design flows and abandoning the existing sewer force main.”
Design is expected to begin in late 2026, with construction occurring in 2027.
City staff are going to evaluate statements of qualifications using a weighted scoring system.
Before the deadline, a non-mandatory, pre-proposal meeting is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2026, at the existing lift station site.
The project manager must be a registered professional engineer in the state of Washington. Interviews, if needed, would take place in February 2026. A final contract review is slated for March 2026.
To express interest, firms must file statements of qualifications with justin.knox@cityoflacey.org. Justin Knox, a utilities engineer with City of Lacey Public Works, is overseeing the process.
