Olympia, our fairest town, seeks someone new to wear the crown
Of laureate, of poetry, and, as far as I can see
Needs no skill in metered verse, and what to me is even worse
Must show a clearly proscribed focus, through literary hocus pocus
On perseverance, grit and strength, and, must go to any length
To satisfy the city council, and thus I do , hereby announce, will
For 2 thousand legal tender, am glad to say I would surrender
All principal to wear the laurel . and now I Ieave you with this moral
That poetry, politicized by working for an arts committee, has little chance to touch one’s heart when government decides what’s art.
