Clark County Prosecutor clears Olympia Police in Timothy Green’s death

The Clark County Prosecutor’s Office has declined to file any charges against Olympia officers who figured in the shooting incident of Timothy Green on August 22, 2022.

A press statement Olympia issued through Communications Director Kellie Braseth on Monday, December 5, announced that the county’s prosecutor completed their review of the incident and determined that the officers’ actions were lawful.

“We understand that this has been a difficult time for our community, and we appreciate your patience through the long investigative process. The City of Olympia thanks the Capital Metro Independent Investigations Team for their dedication to completing a thorough review of this incident and the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office for its professionalism and due diligence,” the press statement read.

The Olympia Police Department will now conduct an internal review of the officer-involved shooting to evaluate whether department regulations and procedures were followed regarding the use of force in accordance with their standard protocols.

As part of its internal review, the Olympia Police Department will also examine existing policies and procedures to identify any areas for improvement to serve the public better.

Police Chief Rich Allen will assemble a seven-person Use of Force Review Board consisting of internal and external members and a community representative from the Use of Force Advisory Board to conduct this assessment.

“Anytime an interaction with members of our police department results in injury or loss of life, it is important that we evaluate our policies and procedures to reiterate our commitment to thoughtful, community-focused public safety and policing. We ask the community to continue to hold the Green family in your thoughts,” the statement added.

Green, who had mental health issues, was fatally shot by police after reportedly brandishing a knife having an altercation with officers on Sleater-Kinney Road and Martin Way.

"Love and justice for Timothy Greene" the mentally unstable transient with a long rap sheet that harassed and intimidated citizens in the Hobby Lobby area before unwisely charging the police with a knife.

To some, there is never a justified fatal use of force by the police. Those same are also typically the people that take someone like Timothy Greene and portray him as a lovable saint.

My god your lack of empathy is beyond belief. I hope mental illness never affects you, your family or someone you know. Were you personally assaulted by this human being?

I'm glad the city is working to help those that are in crisis without the use of police force.

Did you REALLY expect the officers to be held accountable?!? Pass me some of whatever you're smoking or drinking if you did. I've lived in this area for over 60 years and whether it's Olympia or New York City, the cops are always right (and innocent). If they're wrong, see the first statement. I'm sorry but I've been on this earth 3/4 of a century and you can't pull the wool over my eyes about it any longer.

So it's "empathy" after someone dies to cover up a laundry list of problems and crime? Got it.

How about some real empathy that realizes leaving these people out on the streets to both victimize and be victimized themselves is not compassion but cruelty. If Timothy Greene had been incarcerated in a mental institution which he so clearly needed none of this would have happened. Instead the people screaming about empathy and compassion left him out there.
