The Thurston County Board of Commissioners approved a $3,069,000 contract to remodel the Ballot Processing Center.
During a Tuesday, Dec. 3, public meeting, Rick Thomas, the capital projects planning manager for the county, requested the board's approval to award the contract for the project to Construct Inc. of Tumwater.
“The current space at the Ballot Processing Center does not meet the current or future space and security needs of the Thurston County Auditors Election Division,” according to a staff report on the project.
Commissioner Gary Edwards expressed his appreciation for the staff's work on the project.
"They actually saved us a lot of money from the estimate that we originally got," Edwards said.
The board unanimously approved the contract, authorizing the interim director of central services to execute the agreement and any necessary amendments.
On Oct. 31, Thurston County received a total of 10 bids to remodel the Ballot Processing Center, which is located at 2905 29th Ave SW, Tumwater.
The low, responsive bid of $3,069,000 was submitted by Construct Inc.
The scope of work for this project includes remodeling and expanding the current Ballot Processing Center to better meet the space and security needs of the Thurston County Auditors Election Division.
The remodel will utilize the entire building, providing approximately 16,000 square feet of upgraded space.
The project is funded through a combination of sources, including the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
According to a staff report on the project, the remodel is part of the county's 2023-28 Capital Improvement Plan.
It aligns with Thurston County's Strategic Plan, specifically Initiative Number 16, which aims to provide safe, secure, accessible and functional facilities to effectively house county services and the associated workforce.
