Local residents are encouraged to join the Thurston-Mason County Developmental Disabilities Resource and Transition Fair from 4:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11.
The fair is primarily meant for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families, special education directors, transition coordinators and case managers.
The fair will be held at the Capital Event Center, 6005 Tyee Drive SW, Tumwater. A sensory room will be provided on-site by Sensory Tool House.
The fair is also open to other interested individuals interested in exploring various vendors and service providers, such as advocacy and family support groups, employment providers, government agencies, transportation services and more.
“Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect and empower our community. Save the date and spread the word,” a county news release states.
Teachers may clock hours in the fair as attendance by visiting the link to log in or create an account. Upon arriving at the event, teachers also need to sign in to confirm attendance.
Staff will also be available to assist with Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) applications and answer questions.
Individuals with questions or people interested in DDA applications may email hst.coord@co.thurston.wa.us to RSVP for this course.
A Department of Social and Health Services (DHSH) mobile truck will be outside where attendees may avail of various services.
Fair attendees may apply for benefits, such as cash, food or medical programs for the aged, blind, or disabled, or complete an eligibility review without filling out a paper or online form.
Individuals may also complete an interview for benefits, get case information or report changes, complete a mid-certification review and request a replacement Electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card.
