The threats facing families are changing and keeping up can be difficult. From sophisticated online scams and AI-powered fraud to cyberbullying, exploitation and new substances appearing in communities, parents and caregivers are often left trying to understand risks they may have never encountered before.
To help families navigate these rapidly changing challenges, Family Education & Support Services (FESS) is bringing local experts and community members together for a free, two-part Strengthening Families Community Conversation series on October 8 and October 15 at Educational Service District 113 (ESD 113) in Tumwater.
A scam can arrive as a text message. A stranger can reach a child through a gaming platform.
Artificial intelligence can make fraudulent messages and impersonations more convincing.
For families, understanding these risks is an important part of staying safe.
Presenters will discuss:
• Current local trends involving exploitation, trafficking and cyberbullying
• How to recognize and prevent scams, including those targeting older adults
• Fraud and identity theft prevention
• The role of artificial intelligence in scams and warning signs to watch for
• Personal safety and crime prevention tips
• How crime analysis supports community policing and responses to these issues
