The regular monthly Death Cafe at the Tumwater Library is on the first Monday of each month.
If you don't know what a Death Cafe is, it is where people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death.
The objective is "to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives."
A Death Cafe is a group-directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes.
It is a discussion group rather than grief counseling or funeral planning, although these topics are fair game.
Other topics might include your thoughts, feelings and experiences relating to: life after death, past lives, near-death experiences, reincarnation, ghostly apparitions, loss, memorial rites/customs, methods of dealing with mortal remains, etc, etc…
Death Cafes are always offered:
- On a not-for-profit basis
- In an accessible, respectful and confidential space
- With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action
- Alongside refreshing coffee, tea – and cake!
