Traffic Advisory

Desoto St SW in Tumwater closed next Tuesday, use alternate routes

Posted

Tumwater is warning motorists that all lanes along Desoto Street SW between N. 2nd Avenue SW and N. 4th Avenue SW will be closed on Tuesday, January 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for tree removal of four large trees deemed to be hazardous.

“The trees were recommended for removal after a nearby tree failed and the city requested an evaluation of other trees in the area,” the city noted, adding that the road closure was needed for the use of a crane in the operation.

Aside from vehicle access, pedestrian as well as bike lanes will be closed and parking in the area will be prohibited, with flaggers and city workers present to help redirect traffic.

“Access to residences may be limited,” Tumwater announced, “and City staff will coordinate directly with residents in the work zone who may be impacted.”

“Work will continue January 24 with cleanup and site restoration,” the city continued in its press release. “There will be on-street parking restrictions on N. 3rd Avenue SW between Ferry Street SW and the cul-de-sac on both January 23 and 24.”
