After almost three hours of issued surrender orders, Olympia Police Department (OPD) arrested a man for alleged second-degree aggravated assault on the early morning of January 6.

According to the police report, OPD were responding to a call made by a child reporting that their father was “punching the mom in the face.” And also said that their mother had a bloody nose.

When the police arrived at the scene at about 2246 hours (10:46 p.m.), the victim stated that all their children witnessed the incident. One of the children had just arrived and saw her mother's face covered in blood, and one of the children had seen the entire assault.                 The victim stated that she and her husband were drinking when he lost his temper during an argument and started assaulting her, first by punching her in the face and that he thengrabbed her by the throat and squeezed so hard she could not breathe.

The victim also told the police that the suspect had a military background and owned firearms, which were kept in a safe that only he had access to inside the bedroom, and that she did not have the key.

Photos were taken of the blood and bruising on the victim as evidence.

The suspect, who had locked himself inside the bedroom, did not answer repeated calls to his cell phone nor did he respond to multiple surrender orders from patrol cars’ public address systems.“Since the bedroom window faces the parking lot, we knocked on the window and advised Jermey he was under arrest for assault. There was no movement or response from the house. We made multiple surrender orders from a patrol cars PA. There was no response,” the Olympia Police Department responding officer stated in the police report.

Authorities contacted a judge and got approval for a search warrant and a Thurston County SWAT team issued surrender orders through a robot that entered the suspect’s home.

“At 0131 hours, [suspect] came outside of the home and was arrested without incident,” detailed the report.  The suspect was advised of his Miranda rights and put in the patrol car. He was brought and booked into the Thurston County Jail for second degree aggravated assault, domestic violence.
