An elderly Olympia man was charged with a felony after allegedly pulling out a knife and threatening to kill his two roommates.

A document from the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney dated March 29 indicated that William Dale Harris, 79, was charged with two counts of felony harassment – threat to kill while armed with a deadly weapon.

Olympia police arrested Harris on March 26 after a couple reported their roommate pulling out a knife in an apartment complex on the 200 block of Bethel Street.

The boyfriend told police that he was threatened multiple times by Harris that day, with the suspect brandishing knives and a brass knuckle.

The man said he initially did not think much of it due to the suspect’s erratic state but became concerned when Harris got more aggressive, claiming he will “gut” him and his girlfriend while holding a knife.

The girlfriend told police that she was helping Harris install a cable box when the suspect got upset and called her a “fucking b*tch.”

The suspect then pulled out a pocketknife, extended the blade, and threatened to kill the woman and her boyfriend, she told Olympia police.

Police said the girlfriend expressed concern that Harris was becoming a danger to himself and to others, and noted that the suspect recently visited a mental health clinic.

Harris was handcuffed after voluntarily exiting their apartment. Throughout the arrest, the suspect repeatedly talked over police about being a “badass,” stating that he could hurt officers if he needed to, according to the report.

“Harris would continue to fluctuate between insults and compliments toward police,” one officer wrote.

The suspect was booked at the Thurston County Jail for two counts of felony harassment.
