Equity map populates in Lacey

Posted

The City of Lacey recently launched an equity map in an effort to make a more inclusive and equitable community.

The map uses 34 community indicators, which are grouped into five categories: accessibility, livability, education, economy and environment, to provide insights on how experiences differ around the city.

“The Equity Map is a very informative tool that will allow us to learn more about our community in different ways,” said Lacey City Manager Rick Walk in a statement about the map.

“While we can use this data to help inform future policy decisions and infrastructure projects, it’s also available to businesses, (nonprofits), and others who may find the information valuable.”

Developed in collaboration with the Commission on Equity, the Human Services Commission, city staff, and other stakeholders, the map includes data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Washington State Department of Health, city data, and other sources.

It’s regular infographic map with standard demographics and stuff. What’s equity got to do with it?

So, according to the equity map in this article. Minorities have the best opportunities in the suburban and rural areas...interesting. Yet, I remain curious... maybe the best living conditions are away from the city and have nothing to do with ethnicity?
