Evergreen College's Nicasio, Foley, get nods in All-Cascade Collegiate Conference

Posted

After the end of collegiate soccer’s regular season this fall, two players from The Evergreen State College received plaudits in the 2024 All-Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) honors after their standout performances this season for the Geoducks, as voted by the CCC head coaches.

Men’s squad captain Emmanuel Nicasio has been selected in the First Team All-Conference after bringing a dynamic role in the Evergreen midfield, while senior defender Alexandra Foley of the women’s team was named an honorable mention in All-conference.

Nicasio showed his exceptional ball control, vision, and attacking skills as he led the Geoducks in total shots, goals, and assists this season. He contributed six goals and four assists in 13 games and was crucial for Evergreen, including hitting the winning goal in the final minutes of their 2-1 win over Northwest University last October.

His feats on and off the pitch also got him nominated for the Men's Collegiate Sports Star of the Year at the 2024 Olympia & Beyond Sports Awards.

"Manny has been the heart and soul of our team for the past two years," Evergreen men's soccer Head Coach Steve Schmidt said.

"No one is more deserving of this recognition. We asked him to take on a much larger attacking role for us this year and the response was second to none. His legacy will be felt in this program and our community for years to come. I'm so excited for him and can't wait to see what lies ahead!"

Playing mainly as a wing-back, Alexandra Foley played a vital role in the Geoducks’ attack and defense. She scored twice and assisted once this season, helping shut down opponents on Evergreen's defensive half of the field while being adept at keeping possession, moving the ball into the attack, and providing quality passes in the final third.

"Alex is both athletic and fiercely competitive, demonstrating leadership and a knack for problem-solving," Evergreen women's soccer Head Coach Kate Green said. "We are lucky to have her on the field with us."

The men’s team finished 12th in the conference this season with a 3-9-1 win-loss-draw record, good for 10 points, a far cry from last year’s 19 points and playoff appearance.

The women’s team finished 11th this season with eight points from two wins, two draws, and eight defeats, slightly improving from last year's seven-point finish.
