FBI to investigate tribal police-involved shooting at Lucky Eagle Casino

Yesterday, in a news release that was posted to social media, and another news release on December 11,  Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) officially handed over the investigation to the FBI on Chehalis Tribal Police officers involved in a shooting within the premises of the Lucky Eagle Casino, on the evening of December 10.

TSCO assisted Chehalis police that night after receiving information that a suspect with a warrant for Murder in the 1st Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Degree from Pierce County was spotted on the premises.

During contact with the suspect, a Chehalis Tribal Poice officer shot the subject. The officers and deputies gave the subject aid, however, was soon declared deceased.

After the incident, TCSO initially led the investigation of the shooting.

“The Sheriff’s Office transferred the investigation to the FBI because they have primary jurisdiction,” TCSO stated. Previously the sherrif’s office shared that “since the incident involved Chehalis Tribal Officers in their jurisdiction, the FBI and Bureau of Indian Affairs were contacted.

Witnesses are encouraged to come forward with any information related to the shooting and can do so anonymously by contacting the FBI through their email address.

    What a shame that Mr. Evans was shot in the back, unarmed, and inside a crowded casino.

    I'm not a police officer, but I can assure you, there were other options. Why weren't police posted on the exits, in case Mr. Evans attempted to get away. Instead of using a common sense approach, one of the officers decided instead, to use deadly force, when no threat existed.

    Let's not forget that in this country, everyone is entitled to be looked at as , Innocent Until Proven Guilty.
