An Olympia man was charged with felony harassment after allegedly threatening to shoot his wife and an hours-long standoff with law enforcement.

Olympia police arrested the suspect, 50, last Sat., Nov. 13, after his wife reported that he allegedly threatened to “blow [her] brains out.”

The wife told police that her husband came home “highly agitated” and started undressing after complaining that he was covered in urine, placing a small handgun on the kitchen island while he was doing so.

The suspect then threatened to shoot her, the wife said, adding that she feared for her life because she believed that he was capable of carrying out the threat.

The wife said her husband began chasing in her circles around their kitchen island, until he stopped and she managed to leave the apartment to call 911. Police noted that the wife was not assaulted and did not sustain any injuries.

More police officers arrived in the area and set up a perimeter around the apartment, according to the police report.

Police said the suspect repeatedly refused to come out of the apartment, insisting that he had done nothing wrong and that his wife made everything up because she was “crazy on paper” and allegedly diagnosed with PTSD, schizophrenia, and depression.

The standoff lasted around three hours as Olympia police waited for the SWAT team of the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office to arrive. Police also secured a search warrant to seize the suspect and his handgun.

The suspect was ultimately taken into custody after a K9 was deployed, according to police. No firearm was located.

The suspect was also brought to a hospital to receive treatment for his injuries sustained when the police dog bit him. He later received medical clearance.

The Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney charged the suspect with felony harassment – threat to kill, charging documents dated Nov. 16 showed.
