OLYMPIA - Fri., May 22 - The Quality Inn at 1211 Quince St. SE was substantially destroyed last night by a fire that started at approximately 1:30 a.m.  Approximately 80 guests were displaced.

Olympia Fire Dept. reported that the " fire began with a shrub, extended to the siding and into the attic. The fire was challenging to access as it spread through hidden spaces."

Several fire departments have been involved.  As of 8:30 this morning two ladder engines were still dousing the affected building; one of these was a Lacey Fire Dept. vehicle.  In addition to Olympia and Lacey Fire Departments,  Tumwater, East Olympia, South Bay and McLane Black Lake fire departments also assisted.

The building received new paint and a remodeled lobby approximately a year ago but was not upgraded to include fire sprinklers, according to a reporter from Q13FOX News.
