First robotics competition of the year hosted at North Thurston High School

Posted

Robotics, not long ago reserved for the realm of science fiction and multi-million dollar factories, has become hobby and sport for local high school students who design and build their own ‘bots now.

Last Saturday North Thurston High School (NTHS) hosted a local robotics competition and stood up against students from several other schools.

“Robotics is a community experience,” says NTHS physics teacher Jenny Kassil, who also serves as the school’s robotics coach. Students develop their robots as teams, which helps them to develop professional skills necessary to succeed in technology-related fields.

Throughout the school year there are some 15 competitions, some at the statewide level.
