Subfreezing overnight lows along with patchy freezing fog are likely to persist through the weekend in Thurston County.
The National Weather Service Office in Seattle forecast calls for an overnight low around 23 degrees on Friday, Jan. 23, into Saturday, Jan. 24, with patchy dense freezing fog.
The daytime high should be near 43 degrees on Saturday, with wind chill temperature values between 24 degrees and 34 degrees.
“The wind chill temperature is how cold people and animals feel when outside. Wind chill is based on the rate of heat loss from exposed skin caused by wind and cold,” states the National Weather Service in an explainer about wind chill.
“As the wind increases, it draws heat from the body, driving down skin temperature and eventually the internal body temperature. Therefore, the wind makes it feel much colder.”
The overnight low on Saturday into Sunday, Jan. 25, should be around 22 degrees with patchy freezing fog after 10 p.m.
The daytime high on Sunday should be near 42 degrees, with wind chill temperature values between 23 degrees and 33 degrees. The overnight low should be around 30 degrees.
Overnight lows are expected to climb into the low to upper 30s as next week progresses. Forecasts are subject to change.
