FREE Health Webinar: The Big Bad 5 - Metabolic Syndrome with Laura Woodworth, RDN

Posted by HeartofWellness

Up to 37% of all Americans likely have Metabolic Syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is not a disease in itself. Instead, it's a group of metabolic risk factors that have been shown to increase a person's likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
These risk factors include elevated waist circumference, elevated triglycerides, reduced HDL, elevated blood pressure, and elevated fasting glucose. Specifically, metabolic syndrome can lead to a plaque buildup in the arteries, known as atherosclerosis. Having any one of these risk factors isn't good, but when a person has three or more, their risk for disease increases substantially.
Please join us for this webinar, the first in a four-part series that will delve deeply into the impacts of the modern diet and how it impacts our overall health.
Laura Woodworth is a Registered Dietitian with a Master's degree in Nutrition from Bastyr University. She strongly believes in promoting a whole-foods diet and finding balance with moderation when it comes to eating. Following a strict diet doesn't usually last because it means people have to give up foods they are exposed to everyday. A whole-foods diet is a much broader way to eat, and when we have a deeper understanding of how it benefits us, our world becomes full of possibility instead of restriction. Avoiding processed foods and sugar doesn't seem so difficult when we know what foods to embrace and why we are doing it.
