A fundraiser is ongoing for a 44-year-old Yelm man, who was shot and killed at the Seattle Center during the Bite of Seattle event on Sunday, July 26.
Carlos Israel Sanchez Villalba was one of three people killed at the annual food festival near the Space Needle. Four other people, including a toddler, were injured in the shooting.
Sanchez Villalba, married with three children, was identified by the King County Medical Examiner's Office.
"Preliminary reports indicate that two people exchanged gunfire outside the Seattle Center Armory around 6 p.m. Seven people of varying ages were struck by bullets," said the Seattle Police Department in a news release on Monday, July 27.
Seattle Police Department officers, who responded to the shooting, arrested one suspect at the scene. He was then taken to police headquarters to be interviewed.
“Our officers were there within seconds. They performed emergency aid to the wounded until the Seattle Fire Department was on scene,” said acting Seattle Police Department Chief Tyrone Davis in a statement. “Simultaneously, officers launched a search for the people responsible for this senseless violence.”
