The average price of regular unleaded gasoline is nearing some rarefied air in the Olympia market, as the per gallon cost continues to climb amid an ongoing conflict in the Middle East that has bottled up a key passageway for oil shipments.
The price of regular unleaded gas increased to $5.374 per gallon on Friday, March 27, from $5.266 on Friday, March 20, according to data compiled by AAA.
The most recent reading leaves the average price of regular unleaded in the Olympia market within 20 cents of the all-time of $5.571 per gallon, which was set on June 13, 2022.
Gas prices have been on the upswing in the state of Washington and the nation since the United States and Israel launched coordinated military operations against Iran on Feb. 28.
The continuing military operations and the response from Iran have paralyzed the flow of oil in the region due to the country’s control of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital passageway for oil shipments, connects the Persian Gulf with Arabian Sea and is bordered by Iran to the north and Oman to the south.
“Crude oil prices remain high as the Iran conflict nears the (four-week) mark,” said AAA in its weekly gas prices report, which also noted the arrival of the spring break season in the United States has factored into rising gas prices.
Motorists in the state of Washington continue to be among the hardest hit at the pump. The state posted the third highest average price for regular unleaded gas in the country at $5.307 per gallon on March 27, up from $5.215 per gallon on March 20.
California led the pack at $5.844 per gallon on March 27, up from $5.657 a week ago, followed by Hawaii at $5.378 per gallon, up from $5.125 a week earlier. The national average weighed in at $3.978 per gallon on March, up from $3.912 a week ago.
In the state of Washington, the highest average price for regular unleaded gas was recorded in the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett market at $5.522 per gallon on March 27, up from $5.407 per gallon a week earlier.
The lowest average price for regular unleaded gas was recorded in the Clarkson market at $4.599 per gallon on March 27, down from $4.622 a week ago. AAA tracks gas prices in 14 markets across the state of Washington.

It’s high time for the governor to suspend the gas tax while Trump continues to lose what little mind he has left while waging an incredulous and unjust war in the Middle East.

Gas was higher under Hairy-Legs when he failed to stop Russia from invading and murdering thousands of Ukrainians--- June 20,2022 $5.497,.... a war if Trump were president, would never had started!!! Trump would have saved thousands of lives in both USSR/Ukraine.... BTW: The Strait of Hormuz was wide open then too! > By cutting the head off the "Death-to-America" nuclear snake, Trump is saving thousands of lives (which the great Race-Divider Obama) put in this position to try to buy ($1.7 BILLION in cash at 4:00am---) a lunatic lead regime. > How did that work out?!?!? > God bless Trump, who really loves America!!!

I agree with SamLucy. The first commenter on this thread has TDS. Do you really hate our president more than you love our country? I do agree, though, that our state gas tax (along with all the other ridiculous taxes in this state) should be suspended. Indefinitely.

The Trump administration: Chaos, incompetence, stupidity
Trump himself: Convicted felon, convicted sexual assualt, sociopathic psycopath.
What more needs to be said.
Vote these vile people out and then prossecute them. The billions they have stolen from the American people can go to repair what they have destroyed.

TDS = recognizing that our new war - a neocon dream come true and everything Trump said he would never do - is a horrible blunder. Right on JustSaying! SamLucy rewriting history PROVES THEY ARE A GREAT AMERICAN! Got to love the nonsensical BIZARRE REFERENCES in that rant. TRUMP LOVES AMERICA SO MUCH he considered joining the army once but decided that was for someone else to do - because fighting for America is for suckers. Change the Constitution, let our great PATRIOT be President for another 3 terms!

Amazing, simply amazing that the MAGA peanut gallery continues to give him passes and excuse his lack of having any competent plan on anything.
The Strait of Hormuz was open until numbnuts decided to force its closure with another classic Republican preemptive war. A dozen American servicemembers have been killed already. Over 150 CHILDREN murdered by an airstrike, with many more to come. The 82nd

...the 82nd is deploying there now. Look what you all have created.
The TDS only exists within the minds and souls of MAGA, who forgot that Trump Derangement Syndrome was a term from 2015 originally used to describe those who demonstrate blind obedience to Trump.
The levels of corruption are unlike anything we've ever experienced, and the evasion from the ever-present Epstein Files only reinforces the fact that MAGA is full of full-on pedophiles.
Enjoy the shitshow. It's yours!

We already had an agreement in place which prevented Iran from becoming nuclear, but Trump pulled the USA out of it

Wesley: In May 2023, a federal civil jury found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation against writer E. Jean Carroll. The jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation, awarding Carroll $5 million in damages.
While the jury did not find him liable for **** under the strict New York penal law definition at the time, the presiding judge later clarified that the findings met the "common definition of ****". - So, he's a rapist.
In a 2024 trial regarding further defamatory statements about Carroll, a jury ordered Trump to pay an additional $83.3 million.
Criminal Convictions: In May 2024, Trump was convicted in New York of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal a "hush money" payment to a porn actor to influence the 2016 election.
Since the 1970s, at least 28 women have accused Trump of various acts of sexual misconduct, ranging from non-consensual kissing and groping to ****. Trump has denied all allegations, though he appears in the Epstein Files over 38,000 times, while the DOJ continues to refuse to release all of the files.

Perchance, Wesley only gets his news from FOX?? They don't report much about the dirty deeds our president has been convicted of! Very sad, because Trump is a criminal.

This isn’t wrong, but it’s incomplete. Global events like the Iran conflict absolutely affect gas prices, and that’s showing up everywhere. What doesn’t get talked about enough is why Washington is consistently among the highest in the country even before those spikes happen. That part is driven by state-level factors, and if we’re going to have an honest conversation about affordability, we need to look at both.

Whoever may be at fault, this would be a good time for Washington to make good on all those promises and help its citizens out by lowering the taxes. Unless, of course, the local politicians are okay with a bunch of stranded, starving people everywhere.

In the interest of accuracy, lead in retail gas has been banned in this country since January 1, 1996. I'm baffled as to why so many, including gas stations on their signage, continue to use the "unleaded" term. Folks, it's been 30 years!
