Gift Acceptance Policy

Posted

The following Gift Acceptance Policy was approved by The JOLT News Organization's Board of Directors on May 16, 2024.

  1. The JOLT News Organization (JNO) solicits and accepts gifts that are consistent with its mission.
  2. Donations will generally be accepted from individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, foundations, government agencies, or other entities, without limitations.
  3. In the course of its regular fundraising activities, The JOLT News Organization will accept donations of money, real property, personal property, stock, and in-kind services.
  4. Marketable securities may be transferred electronically to an account maintained at one or more brokerage firms or delivered physically with the transferor's endorsement or signed stock power (with appropriate signature guarantees) attached. All marketable securities will be sold promptly upon receipt unless otherwise directed by The JOLT News Organization’s Executive Committee.
  5. Certain types of gifts must be reviewed prior to acceptance due to the special liabilities they may pose for The JOLT News Organization. Examples of gifts which will be subject to review include gifts of real property, gifts of personal property, and gifts of securities.
  6. We will not accept contributions exceeding $4,999 from anonymous sources. This policy shall remain consistent with our Donor and Financial Transparency Policy which reads, in part: We make public all revenue sources and donors who give $5,000 or more per year.
  7. We will not accept donations from sources who, deemed by our board of directors, present a conflict of interest with our work, or who would compromise our independence.
  8. Item 7 notwithstanding, The JNO welcomes engagement with and financial support from elected officials and those who have announced that they are standing for public office. To avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest, the JNO will accept contributions not exceeding the value of a Subscriber-level membership payment or pledge. For 2024, that is $20 per month or $240 per calendar year.
