Olympia Police apprehended a local transient they caught in the act of spray painting pink graffiti on the Wheeler Avenue Park Trailhead entrance bathrooms early yesterday, April 21, at 12:44 a.m.

Darrius Hill, 27, was detained by police and asked to sit on the front bumper of the patrol car. Upon doing so, officers could hear a “rattle” type noise coming from him, which was recognized as a rattle from a spray paint can. Hill removed the can upon request, which had a spray paint color of pink.

Olympia Police documented that there was fresh pink paint inside the bathroom at the Wheeler Avenue trailhead, on the 1021 8th Avenue SE building, and the I5 overpass on Eastside Street SE.

Hill was cited by Olympia Police for graffiti/vandalism and released at the scene.

Nine hours later, Hill had a $1,000 Olympia warrant issued for a March 6, 2021 misdemeanor assault charge by the Olympia Municipal Court after two failed attempts to deliver a notice-to-appear document.
