ADVICE FROM A LEXIS

Hardships can pile on, and then things will get better

Posted

Dear Lexis,

It feels like things haven’t been going my way for quite a while now. I’ve done what I can to remain positive, but the hits just keep coming. It feels like it’s just one problem after another. What should I do?

Thanks,

- Anxious in Lacey

Dear Anxious,

I know how difficult life can sometimes be. Your car breaks down, and then your father breaks his hip. And then, perhaps, your child starts acting up, or a tree falls on your house. These moments of cascading problems happen now and then, and they truly suck. Unfortunately, as they primarily consist of events outside of your control, sometimes the only thing you can do I laugh at the ridiculousness and wait for the end.

Abraham Hicks, the author of Law of Attraction, describes this as falling out of a plane without a parachute. Once in the air, there isn’t much that you can do except wait for the fall to be over. No amount of thinking will change things, and no amount of work on your part will fix it. However, the more relaxed you are, the better your chances.

I don’t necessarily know why these cascade moments happen. It tends to feel like life is just falling apart right before your eyes. My guess is that there are times when your life cannot sustain you anymore, and, as a result, you must go through a time of destruction before a new life can be built.

Yes, it’s hard to see the glory of the new structure when you’re amid the rubble, but if you can keep the image of the new building in mind, you’ll be able to sustain the dream and trust that things will work themselves out in the long run.

The rain can’t fall forever; eventually, the sun will emerge.

It’s not fun to hear, nor is it fun to live through, but there it is. We live in a world of cycles. The old must be removed before the new can take its place. This is a time of rebirth for you. It’s probably not much fun unless you can get a thrill out of knowing that what’s destroyed is better off gone, but it’s happening. Remember that life always works out in your favor and look to the future with curiosity and anticipation of what’s to come.

I’m rooting for you, and I wish you luck and a speedy recovery.
