The heat is going to get cranked up over the next several days in Thurston County.

As a result, the National Weather Service Office in Seattle has issued a heat advisory from 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, in which the daytime highs should range from 91 to 94 degrees.

“Heat will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses for those who are sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling or adequate hydration,” said the National Weather Service in the advisory issued on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 21.

The National Weather also advised people to take a number of precautions, including the consumption of plenty of fluids, staying out of the sun, and checking on relatives and neighbors.

“Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.” the advisory states.

“To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or (air-conditioned) environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911.”

The National Weather Service forecast calls for a high near 91 degrees on Friday with sunny skies and a north, northeast wind of 5-9 miles per hour(mph). The overnight low should be around 58 degrees.

The heat should climb to near 94 degrees on Saturday, Aug. 23, with sunny skies and a north, northeast wind around 6 mph in the afternoon. The overnight low should be around 61 degrees.
