The Lacey Historical Commission reviewed and approved the addition of a significant photograph to the Lacey Museum’s permanent collection.
A digital photograph of Bridget Kenney, donated by Julie Larson, has been officially accepted into the museum’s “permanent collection” during the commission’s meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
Bridget Kenney and her family were prominent figures in Lacey’s early history, relocating to the area in the early 1900s to manage the Lacey Hotel.
The Kenney family’s contributions to the community include Frank Kenney’s creation of the iconic, “It’s the Water,” slogan and the appointment of two of Bridget’s daughters as postmasters.
“We do not have this particular image, and it will add to our Kenney family photographs,” Museum Curator Erin Quinn Valcho said in a report on the subject.
The Lacey Museum’s acquisition aligns with the museum’s mission to preserve and share the city’s cultural heritage.
As outlined in Lacey Municipal Code 2.4.050, the Historical Commission works closely with the museum curator to oversee the acceptance of gifts intended for historical purposes.
Items are evaluated based on their relevance to the museum’s mission, their adherence to the acquisitions policy and their potential for display and research.
