Closure of McKenny Elementary would leave community without alternatives

Posted

I am writing to bring your attention to a pressing issue within our community that demands immediate coverage.

The impending closure of McKenny Elementary in Olympia by the school board has left our community in a state of distress, exacerbated by the lack of viable alternatives offered to resolve this matter.

McKenny has long been a cornerstone of our community, providing quality education and fostering a sense of unity among students, parents, and educators. The decision to consider shutting down the school has raised significant concerns about the future of our children's education and the overall well-being of the community.

What is particularly disheartening is the apparent absence of alternative solutions presented by the school board. The community is left grappling with the consequences of a decision without being given the  opportunity to explore collaborative and sustainable alternatives. We believe that a more transparent and inclusive decision-making process is essential to address the concerns and needs of the community.

I urge The JOLT to shed light on this situation and bring attention to the lack of alternatives provided to our community. Your investigative reporting can play a crucial role in fostering dialogue, encouraging transparency, and ultimately influencing a more inclusive decision-making process.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I am hopeful that your coverage will contribute to a broader understanding of the challenges faced by our community and, in turn, facilitate the exploration of alternative solutions to keep McKenny Elementary operational.

This seems inaccurate - there has been at least one meeting where the community has been given the opportunity to explore alternatives. Any school closure involves losses and gains. Sometimes it just has to be done for the larger good.
