Olympia Police Department (OPD) personnel responded to an altercation at a bar earlier this month, where a man was allegedly involved in multiple assaults before being taken into custody.
According to an OPD police report, responding officers arrived at the 400 block of 4th Avenue E around 1:20 a.m. on March 2 after receiving reports of a physical altercation.
Upon arrival, they found 27-year-old Dayton Dziedziak restrained on the ground by two individuals who intervened after he allegedly attacked multiple people, including a woman, outside the establishment.
Witnesses told police the suspect had been acting aggressively and, without provocation, tackled and struck a woman, causing her to hit her head on the pavement.
The suspect’s cousin who was drinking with him when the incident happened, told law enforcement that the suspect was very drunk and irate, and that he suddenly assaulted the woman victim who is a stranger to them, stating, “there was no ‘rhyme or reason’ to Dayton assaulting the female.”
Bystanders, one of them equipped with a taser and handcuffs, stepped in to subdue him until officers arrived.
When police attempted to take the suspect into custody, he reportedly became combative, making threats and spitting at officers.
Despite efforts to calm him, he continued resisting, at one point charging at an officer before falling to the ground.
“I jumped backwards as Dayton charged passed me, missing me and falling face first into the ground," one of the OPD responding officers reported.
Officers eventually placed him in a restraint system due to his aggressive behavior.
Olympia Fire Department medics arrived on the scene and evaluated both the suspect and the injured woman, who was transported to St. Peter’s Hospital with head injuries.
When the suspect sobered up hours after the incident, he stated he did not remember anything that happened, and the last thing he remembered is that he was drinking with friends.
The suspect was also medically cleared in the same hospital before being booked into the Thurston County Jail for one count of second-degree assault and three counts of third-degree assault.

Peter, becoming required equipment at bars across the country. Don’t leave home without your taser and handcuffs.

What, a cop can't be a bystander, even if off duty? I would have hog tied the ''suspect" with a dog leash that I carry in my truck at all times.
