A house fire in Lacey early Tuesday morning, May 27, claimed the lives of two children and left a woman hospitalized.

Firefighters from Lacey Fire District 3 were called to the 3900 block of 21st Avenue SE shortly after 2 a.m. on Tuesday where they found a home engulfed in flames, the Lacey Police Department (LPD) said in a social media post.

The firefighters worked quickly to control the blaze, but the fire had already caused severe damage.

After the flames were extinguished, investigators confirmed that a 17-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl had died in the fire.

A 44-year-old woman, believed to be the only other person in the home, was rescued and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities from both the LPD and Lacey Fire District Three are conducting a joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Officials say no additional information is available at this time, but will provide updates as the investigation progresses.

“Our hearts go out to their family and friends as they deal with this unimaginable loss,” the Lacey Police Department said.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to contact LPD at (360) 704-2740.
