A hunter in the greater Rochester Grand Mound area discovered human remains; Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies were dispatched to investigate on October 28, announced in a news release.

The following day, detectives and their partners in Search and Rescue returned to the area to conduct a search operation, along with K9 units from King and Lewis Counties and numerous volunteers joining the search for additional remains.

On Thursday, November 2, authorities were able to identify the human remains as that of Matthew Anfeldt, who had gone missing since February 2019.

Anfeldt was 20 years old when he went missing.

“We have been in contact with Matthew’s family, and our thoughts are with those grieving his loss,” TCSO stated.

This case is active, and authorities have refrained from disclosing further information.

TCSO is urging anyone with any information related to this case to contact their detectives through their email.
