The City of Olympia and the Squaxin Island Tribe are going to hold an Indigenous Peoples Day celebration on Monday, Oct. 13

The event is taking place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Squaxin Park, which is located at 2600 East Bay Drive NE in Olympia.

The event includes cultural presentations, speakers and educational activities focused on Indigenous heritage and community traditions. Food will also be available. Families are encouraged to attend, said the City of Olympia in announcing the free event.

Organizers advised participants that parking at Squaxin Park is limited. Visitors are encouraged to carpool, bike or use Intercity Transit’s fare-free buses.

A complimentary shuttle will operate between the east side of the Olympia Farmers Market District parking lot at 700 Capitol Way N and Squaxin Park, with trips every 30 minutes beginning at 11 a.m.

Additional event information, including maps of park facilities and parking areas, is available on the City of Olympia’s website.

The annual celebration recognizes the history, culture and ongoing contributions of Indigenous communities in Thurston County. It aims to promote public understanding and strengthen community connections through shared learning and cultural appreciation.
