Unruly inmate charged for alleged assault of corrections deputies

A 34-year-old inmate at Thurston County Corrections Facility is facing charges after an alleged assault on corrections deputies.

According to a Thurston County Sheriff’s Office report, two separate incidents happened on July 11. The inmate, identified in the report as Brian A. Gonzalez, allegedly threatened a corrections deputy while he was in the shower on the morning of July 11.

“He asked to shower, but then threatened to kill the deputy if they entered the cell while he was in the shower. Despite being warned he would lose his hour if he continued, Gonzalez repeated the threat,” a TCSO deputy stated in the report.

The second incident happened after 5 p.m. in the afternoon. It was time for meals and the cells were opened. The inmate, clad in a blanket, stepped out of his cell and suddenly lunged toward a deputy and attempting to grab a key lanyard.

When he was unsuccessful, the inmate called the deputy profanities and allegedly spit on him twice, “under the chin, and again on the chest," the report states.

When staff arrived  at the scene with a pepperball launcher, the inmate complied and he was secured without further incident.

Authorities noted it was the third consecutive day the inmate had lost privileges due to threats or noncompliance.

Due to the inmate’s repetitive behaviour, there was probable cause to charge him with custodial assault.
