Inmate dies after medical emergency at Thurston County Corrections Facility

An inmate at Thurston County Corrections Facility died after suffering a medical emergency, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 14, when an inmate experienced a medical crisis. On-site medical personnel immediately began providing aid, and medics were called to assist, said Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.

Despite efforts to stabilize the inmate, he was pronounced dead while being transported to a hospital.

To avoid conflict of interest, the Thurston County Sheriff's Office requested an independent investigation and was assigned to the Region 3 Critical Incident Investigation Team with the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office taking the lead role.

The Thurston County Coroner’s Office will conduct an examination to determine the official cause of death. The inmate’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.

That's not the first or second inmate who's died recently in the county jail, from drugs. The jail needs a better body scanner or be allowed to do strip searched upon entry. What does it take to get one of those?
