Intercity Transit announces holiday closure and service changes

Intercity Transit has announced its closure on Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25, 2023; and New Year’s Day, Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, in line with the upcoming holidays.

This closure includes all services such as local buses, Express, Dial-A-Lift, and Village Vans.

On Sunday, December 24, the local and Express bus service on all routes will end at 8 p.m. while the Dial-A-Lift pick up will end at 7:30 p.m., with customer service closing at 5 p.m.

All services will be back to their regular schedules on Sunday, December 31,.

On Monday, December 25 and Monday, January 1, no service will be available, and customer service at the Olympia Transit Center and the administrative office will also be closed.

For the last departure times by route and additional information, commuters are advised to visit the Intercity Transit Christmas Eve page or contact Customer Service at 360-786-1881.

Interested individuals can also receive timely updates through text messages or email.

Normal bus schedules will resume on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023, and Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.

    It seems to me that closing the servicing of public transit on Christmas day runs the risk of depriving lonely and vulnerable people the warmth and fellowship of loved ones. Of all days, Christmas should be open, not closed.
