Intoxicated woman crashed car into tree; arrested for assaulting firefighter and deputy

A single-vehicle collision on January 23 at around 8 p.m. led to the arrest of an intoxicated woman for driving under the influence and third-degree assault, as reported by the Thurston County Sheriff's Office.

The incident, which occurred at 200 Wright Street S in Bucoda, was reported by the owner of the tree within the property where the woman’s car had crashed with the woman trapped in the vehicle. The owner of the property also informed the officers that the woman was likely intoxicated.

Responding to the call, deputies observed tire tracks leading from the road into the grass, indicating loss of control, and found the white Chevrolet Tahoe wedged between a tree and a suspended wall. The deputy could see “tire tracks leading from the road into the grass and debris from the vehicle in the dirt,” which they stated looked like indications that the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The woman, Olivia Geer, 39, of Bucoda, was found in the driver's seat and shouting loudly at firefighters.

The woman attempted to assault one of the firefighters and resisted arrest, leading deputies to restrain her further.

The reporting deputy stated that they were informed that “the female driver was the only person in the vehicle and that she was found in the driver seat and assaulted a firefighter by kicking them as they tried to help her out. Officer Johnson also informed me that the female driver was at a friend’s house drinking before trying to drive home.”

“The female driver was very combative trying to assault more people, visibly upset by yelling and screaming at the top of her lungs at everyone, and ferociously angry and tried to pull away from deputies on scene,” TCSO stated in its report.

A man arrived and identified himself as the woman’s ex-husband, confirmed that the vehicle belonged to him and stated to police that she usually behaves the same way when intoxicated.

Officers were unable to complete a field sobriety test or preliminary breath test. Accordingly, the deputies requested and were granted a search warrant to draw the woman’s blood for an intoxication test.

The woman was then put into a WRAP restraint to prevent her from harming responding officers on the scene.

The woman was then transported to Capital Medical Center for a blood draw and medical clearance, where she continued to display aggressive behavior, attempting to assault the officers and medical staff and saying profanities and insults at the people around her.

“Olivia would constantly state we were lucky that we had her restrained otherwise she would fight us. Olivia even stated that if she had a gun, she would shoot all of us and not care,” the TCSO report stated.

Medical personnel administered a sedative to calm her down and be able to facilitate the blood draw.

After all the necessary tests were done, the woman was transported to Thurston County Jail and booked on charges of driving under the influence and two counts of third-degree assault for assaulting a firefighter and a deputy.
