An intruder broke into the Legislative Building on the Washington State Capitol Campus in Olympia and caused damage to a number of areas on Sunday night, Oct. 5.

The Department of Enterprise Serivces, which oversees the Capitol Campus, is assessing the damage.

"There was significant damage in our State Reception Room, which is a particularly important space," said Gov. Bob Ferguson in a social media post on Monday, Oct. 6.

He said the intruder, who was not identified, has been arrested.

"We have the most beautiful Capitol in the country. I am grateful for the quick work of our Department of Enterprise Services and the Washington State Patrol to bring this individual safely into custody," said Ferguson in a social media post.

The damage included a smashed glass door that opens into the State Reception Room, a toppled bust of George Washington and downed flags.

The Department of Enterprise Services closed the building on Monday morning, then later reopened it to the public. Certain spaces have been closed off.

“I appreciate the rapid response from DES staff and collaboration with our emergency response partners," said Department of Enterprise Services Director Matt Jones in a statement on Monday.

"We are reviewing security at the State Capitol Campus to ensure the safety of all who work and visit the campus.”

Good thing the judge let 'em go without bail, I am sure it was just a misunderstood expression of political ideals.

    Glad he was caught.

HappyOlympian where did you read that? We have enough sarcasm with this current administration in DC, you don't need to add to it.

So, the investigating police (WA state patrol) issued a statement that this was not politically motivated. ANY time someone burns our flag it IS a political statement.

No bail. Why? This is sad. Destroys the people's property and just walks till he maybe shows up for a hearing.

Thank you, CobraCommander for reminding us of that devastating day., January 6,2021. We must never forget the Coup Attempt that was never brought to justice and never will be thanks to SCOTUS.
