Thurston County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) has confirmed two separate homicides that occurred on March 9, according to a recent news release.

The first incident unfolded around 8:30 in the morning when the McLane Black Lake Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 4100 block of Cooper Point Road NW.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered a single victim who had perished in the fire.

“The circumstances surrounding the victim's death were considered suspicious, and detectives were contacted to investigate the incident,” TCSO reported.

Eight hours earlier today, TCSO released a statement that a 30-year-old male suspect has since been apprehended concerning the incident and has been booked on 1st-degree murder, 2nd-degree assault, and other charges.

As of this writing, the details are limited as the investigation is ongoing. News release number 24-06.

Meanwhile, at 11:00 am on the same day, deputies were dispatched to a serious injury collision in the 9900 block of Bridge Road SE.

Reports indicated multiple vehicles were involved, and the instigating vehicle fled, with one of the drivers succumbing to injuries sustained in the collision.

TCSO investigators also responded to this incident, and the Yelm Police Department (YPD) also participated in the investigation.

“During the initial stages of the investigation, it was discovered the collision occurred during a road rage-type incident involving people who knew each other, and it was not random drivers involved,” TCSO stated. Release number 24-05.

Both incidents remain under active investigation by law enforcement.

Anyone with information related to either of the two cases is urged to contact TCSO detectives via email.
