Jury duty scam: A warning from the court

Posted

The Thurston County Superior Court has urged the public to be vigilant against scam calls threatening repercussions over missed jury duty.

The Superior Court said it recently became aware of phone calls claiming that people will be fined or arrested if they fail to report for jury duty.

“The Court will NEVER ask for money if you fail to report for jury duty or fail to communicate with the Court about a juror summons,” the court said in a press release.

The court also reminded the public that jurors will never be required to meet with a judge or any other official to discuss juror summons or jury service.

It added that law enforcement officers will also never communicate with jurors on behalf of the court.

“Superior Court only initiates communication with potential jurors via summons,” the release explained.

Those seeking further information about jury service are advised to call 360-754-4107.
