Thurston County is offering several locations for community members to take shelter from the current heat wave over the county.
The county declared a Hazardous Weather Event announcement, on Monday, effective until Thursday, August 17, as the National Weather Service predicted temperatures reaching 91 degrees Fahrenheit over Puget Sound.
Community members can seek refuge from the heat at most local branches of Timberland Regional Library (TRL) and various locations listed below:
Lacey:
Olympia:
Rainier
Tenino:
Tumwater:
Yelm:
Thurston County Emergency Department has also asked for donations to be distributed to those affected by the heat such as water, sunscreen, aloe vera, sports drinks, electrolyte packets and snacks.
Donations can be dropped off at 3501 Mary Elder Road (behind Sergio’s) until Thursday, August 17, from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Click here for more information.
