The Lacey City Council recognized two former library board members with the Distinguished Public Service awards for their years of volunteer service to the city.

Scott Robinson and Amy Blondin received the honors during the council meeting on Tuesday, March 3.

Robinson served on the board from 2016 to 2026, and previously served on the Lacey Planning Commission from 2000 to 2005. Blondin joined the library board in 2018 and served through earlier this year.

Library Board Chair Sharla Desy attended the meeting and spoke about the contributions both members made during their tenure.

She said Robinson was already on the board when she joined and that he ran it just before her first term as chair. His willingness to share his time and answer her questions early on, she said, made a real difference.

Desy added that Blondin joined after she did and wasted no time becoming one of the board's most active members. She said Blondin's humor and energy lit up the work, and that the board would feel the absence of both.

Mayor Andy Ryder presented the awards on behalf of the city council before inviting both members to share brief remarks.

Robinson pointed to the library’s heavy workload as an example of its importance to the community.

“The library is a great asset for this community,” Robinson said. “I urge you to continue to support it moving forward.”

Blondin, who works for the local school district, said the library was a go-to for her family when her kids were young.

“The Lacey library was just kind of a lifesaver for my husband and me when our kids were little — it was a place to go on a rainy Saturday and spend a few hours,” said Blondin, adding both the library and city have been strong partners with the district.

The Lacey Library Board is a six-member body that shapes library programming and planning for the city. Lacey’s library ranks among the busiest of the 27 branches in the five-county Timberland Regional Library system.

The board meets at 5:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of January, April, June and October at Lacey City Hall, 420 College St. SE.
