The Lacey City Council is holding a regular meeting Thu., Jan. 21, starting at 7:00 p.m. The agenda includes a proposed new ordinance that would restrict sales of commercially bred dogs, cats, and rabbits in pet stores.
Other topics will include: a review of a resolution to approve the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan; a motion to annex Serenity Carpenter Road, a five-acre parcel of land south of Martin Way; and the renewal of Comcast’s exclusive franchise contract.
Six municipalities in Washington, including Olympia in February 2020, have passed legislation banning the retail sales of pets bred by commercial breeders. The ordinance would not affect any retailers currently operating in Lacey, but would help mitigate future attempts at selling commercially-bred pets in Lacey.
With the Olympia City Council having renewed their exclusive contract with Comcast the week prior, both Lacey and Tumwater councils planned further discussions this week on the topic.
In compliance with mandates from Governor Jay Inslee, the city council will meet remotely.
