Lacey Fire District 3 is modernizing its fleet and facilities, as its Carpenter Road headquarters marks 20 years in service.

The district confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday, Sept. 3, that a new frontline fire engine is under construction in Wisconsin, electric vehicle charging stations are being installed at four sites and exterior work is under way at its Carpenter Road headquarters.

The replacement for Engine 31 is being built by Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton, Wisconsin. The cab portion of the new apparatus is already in assembly, and the vehicle will be placed into frontline service by January 2026.

The current Engine 31, a 2016 Pierce Velocity, will then become one of the district’s three reserve fire engines.

The reserve engines are used in fire academies and when frontline apparatus are out of service for maintenance or repairs.

They added the district strives to replace frontline apparatus every eight to 10 years to avoid excessive wear and ensure effectiveness and efficiency.

The district also announced it received a grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce to acquire and install electric vehicle charging stations.

Two chargers are being installed at Stations 31, 33, 34 and 35.

The initiative is part of the state’s Climate Commitment Act, a law aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions and expanding low-emission infrastructure.

According to the district, plans are in place to add chargers at its two remaining facilities in the future as more funds become available.

Meanwhile, Station 31, the district headquarters on Carpenter Road, is also being repainted and maintained. The building was constructed in 2004 and occupied in 2005.

The fire district shared the improvements will extend the life of the facility and serve as a way to mark its 20th year.

The Headquarters Fire Station 31 is on Franz Street, not Carpenter Road.

Holy sh*t! LFD 3 already has so.e of the most up-to- date equipment and facilities. Prepare yourself for levies on any upcoming ballot measures. They'll say the population is increasing. Yes,it is, and this should have been taken into account last time. Can you afford any more levies/taxes?
