Lacey holiday food drive benefits JBLM service members, families

Posted

Service members and military families at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) got a holiday helping hand from the Lacey Veterans Services Hub, which sent food to the Armed Services YMCA.

The donated goods landed on Dec. 3, three weeks before Christmas, giving families time to plan meals and ease financial strain. The drive hinged entirely on contributions from individuals and organizations willing to step up for military families.

"This effort came to life thanks to the generosity of residents, partners, and supporters across the City of Lacey and Thurston County who share a strong commitment to caring for those who serve," the Veterans Services Hub said in a statement released on Thursday, Dec. 11.

"The holiday season can be especially challenging for many military families, and these donations offer practical help and a reminder that the community stands with them."

In acknowledgement, the Hub thanked everyone who donated goods, volunteered for time, or helped spread the word. The outpouring reflects "the strong sense of community that defines Lacey," the Hub said.

The organization also encouraged continued backing for the miliary after the holiday season is over.

"The Lacey Veterans Services Hub wishes everyone a safe, peaceful, and happy holiday season and extends sincere thanks to all who continue to support service members, veterans, and their families throughout the year," the Hub said.

The Armed Services YMCA, which received the donations, serves as a key partner in supporting military families stationed at JBLM, one of the largest military installations in the country.

The Hub did not specify the quantity of food delivered or the number of families expected to benefit.

I'll be sure to make a donation to our veterans in light of this current administration's need to NOT take care of those that have and are serving our country.

Imagine the economy being so bad that our service members are unable to buy food.

    Trump's economy!
