Renovation plan unveiled for library in Lacey

The Lacey Library Board approved a comprehensive renovation project aimed at reimagining the community's primary public library space.

During the April 17 board meeting, Lacey’s Library Manager Kristina Hancock revealed plans for a first quarter 2026 remodel.

"We want to build a very large play structure in the children's area ... it's going to be like a two-story tree house," Hancock stated.

Circulation data supports the library's strategic vision, according to Hancock.

She reported a 4% increase in Lacey's library usage and a substantial 42% surge at the Hawks Prairie location, indicating growing community engagement with library services.

The renovation will fundamentally restructure the library's interior, with plans to create more open, accessible spaces.

"We're reorganizing to make the library a more community-based center," explained Hancock, highlighting the intention to adapt to evolving community needs.

Key renovation features include a potential addition of study rooms, improved spatial design and enhanced community programming spaces.

Board members supported the project, viewing it as a critical investment in local educational and cultural infrastructure.

Library staff are exploring options to maintain minimal service continuity during renovation, potentially including temporary takeout services or alternative access points.

Community members can expect more detailed renovation plans in upcoming public meetings.
