On Thursday, Feb 13, "Lacey Loves to Read" will hold a free author event featuring the renowned children and young adult author Varian Johnson.
Being able to hear an author read is a unique privilege and special experience. If you have a child who is struggling to see the point in reading or who you want to engage more in reading, this is a great opportunity to do that. Every time I hear an author read I am engaged, and want to hear the rest of the story. Plus it’s free. Nice!
Johnson has several books out for children and young adults. "The Parker Inheritance," which won both Coretta Scott King Author Honor and Boston Globe/Horn Book Honor awards; "The Great Greene Heist," an ALA Notable Children’s book and Kirkus Reviews Best Book; and the graphic novel "Twins," illustrated by Shannon Wright, an NPR Best Book are notably his best.
Varian holds an Master's Degree of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts, and is now a faculty member there. You can find out more about him here: https://varianjohnson.com/.
Its so exciting to see community events like this. The ability to read opens all kinds of doors for children in our community, and to be able to see an author who you relate to can inspire young people to do the same.
With our education system under attack, giving our children the tools they need to discern for themselves what they like to read, what they value, what things they want to learn about is invaluable.
Talk with those around you about what you are reading, offer children books you loved as a child, and be open to ones they bring home.
If you are worried about a book your child is reading, ask your librarian or read it yourself first. You might end up loving the book yourself.
Browsers Books will be on-site with Johnson's books for purchase.

Sounds like a great idea for children and to meet the author is even better.
