Lacey opts for 'less industrial' branding for its 'Midtown'

Its images will represent individuals from various walks of life

Lacey Planning Commission discussed the proposed utility box wraps within Lacey Midtown to uphold its branding as an innovative district during its meeting on Tuesday, December 6.

Senior Planner Sarah Schelling said the new designs were far from the original layout described as "a little bit institutional" back when they presented it in 2018.

The new design features an aerial photo as a background and the Lacey Midtown logo in the front with a QR Code that links to an upcoming page about the district.

Schelling said they plan to feature images of the library, park activities, universities and other things representing the district on the narrow side of the utility box.

"As we're looking at the photos, we're trying to make sure that we represent various individuals from all walks of life that would represent our community," Schelling said.

Schelling said the materials used for the utility box wrap would be vinyl, so they can be easier to clean over time and are within the $15,000 budget.

The city plans to launch the new design early next year, added Schelling. If the launch is successful, Schelling said they would come up with city banners as the next project for the Midtown branding program.
