The City of Lacey recognized 14 law enforcement agencies and first responders for their collaboration in arresting two men charged with killing teenage brothers in a drive-by shooting last month.
City Manager Rick Walk issued a statement on Thursday, Dec. 4, crediting the Lacey Police Department for locating and apprehending Trequanne Trenelle Wilson-Mason, 20, of Lacey, and Jaden Hawk Johns, 20, of Thurston County, who each face two counts of murder in the first degree and two counts of drive-by shooting.
Walk expressed gratitude to the department for the swift response.
"I want to extend my deepest appreciation to the Lacey Police Department for their tireless work in locating and apprehending the suspects," Walk said. "Their quick, coordinated response — built on professionalism, expertise, and genuine care for our community members — brought significant progress to this difficult case."
The shooting occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Nov. 14 at 24th Avenue SE and College Street SE. Officers responded and found Alexander M. Borgen, 16, of Lacey, and Deven J. Borgen, 17, of Rainier, unresponsive with gunshot wounds. Both teens died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts.
Community members also came forward with information and updates during the investigation. Walk said public cooperation was instrumental in helping investigators resolve the case.
"Public safety is a partnership, and its success relies heavily on your assistance," Walk said. "Your willingness to speak up and stay engaged played a vital role in helping investigators move quickly."
The JOLT News previously reported that Lacey Police Department investigators took Wilson-Mason into custody at a hotel in Wenatchee on Nov. 18. He is being held on no bail at Thurston County Corrections Facility.
Johns was arrested on Nov. 19 after a high-speed pursuit that ended in Pierce County. He is also being held without bail at Thurston County Corrections Facility.
The following regional law enforcement agencies and emergency services received credit from the city for their assistance in the investigation.
Ballard Ambulance, Columbia River Drug Task Force, East Cascade Crisis Negotiators Team, East Cascade Special Weapons and Tactics, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Olympia Police Department detectives, Pierce County Special Weapons and Tactics, Special Investigations Response Team, Thurston County Special Weapons and Tactics, Thurston County Narcotics Task Force, Washington State Patrol, Washington State Patrol Aviation, Wenatchee Police Department and Wenatchee Valley Fire.
"The collaboration across agencies was seamless and instrumental in helping move this case forward," Walk said. "We value these relationships, and this incident demonstrates how essential they are to protecting our communities."
Walk also expressed his condolences to the Borgen family.
"Above all, our hearts are with the victims' family, friends, and loved ones," Walk said. "No words can ease the weight of this loss, but we hope the progress made in the investigation offers some level of comfort to the family as they navigate the days ahead."
Walk then commended the community's response during the difficult time.
“Lacey is a strong and caring community,” he said. "In times like this, we find strength in coming together to support one another — it's all about people helping people," Walk said.

Good to see that partnership and expertise between the law enforcement agencies led to the capture
of the killers of the Borgen brothers giving some solace to their traumatized family. As a community, we can educate our teens
and young adults that violence of any kind is unacceptable.
