Lacey Public Works Department Director Scott Egger retired on May 29, ending his tenure at the helm of a department responsible for roads, water systems and municipal infrastructure in the city.
At a sendoff held at Lacey City Hall, colleagues gave Egger a custom street sign bearing his name and the message, "Thank You for 18 Years of Service," covered in handwritten notes and well-wishes.
City Manager Rick Walk praised Egger in a farewell statement for his leadership and commitment to public service.
Walk said Egger's greatest contribution was not measured in projects, but in the people he supported and the example he left behind.
"While Scott has many accomplishments to be proud of, I believe his greatest impact can be found in the relationships he built, the people he supported, and the example he set for those who had the opportunity to work alongside him," Walk said.
Egger also mentored city staff throughout his tenure. Walk described him as patient in complex situations and grounded in the needs of the community he served.
"He understands that public service is ultimately about people, and his decisions were guided by what would best serve the community," Walk said.
In a Facebook post marking his retirement, the city echoed that sentiment.
"We had it all — a grill master, a style icon and an outstanding Public Works Director all wrapped into one person," the post reads. "Scott led the City of Lacey's Public Works department with professionalism, expertise, a deep commitment to serving our residents, genuine care for the staff around him, and a contagious smile."
The city has not named an interim or permanent replacement.
