Lacey seeks public input for safer streets plan

Posted

Lacey is calling on residents to help shape the future of local transportation safety.

As part of its commitment to creating safer streets, the city is developing a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan (SAP) and is seeking community input through an online survey until Jan. 14, 2025.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the survey, which seeks to gather insights on various aspects of transportation safety.

“Community feedback will help (Lacey) identify safety challenges and prioritize improvements in the SAP,” the city said in announcing the online survey.

Topics include common travel methods, problematic areas, such as specific streets and intersections, and suggestions for potential safety improvements.

According to the city’s announcement, the feedback would be crucial in shaping a comprehensive plan that addresses the community’s most pressing safety concerns.

The SAP will integrate traffic data with community feedback to identify and prioritize critical safety projects. The city will then be able to use the plan to apply for federal grants for these projects.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries. With the SAP, Lacey aims to create a safer environment for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and all road users.

The city plans to finalize the Safety Action Plan by spring 2025.
